Was kept busy this weekend...

Postby stirlingmac » Tue Mar 02, 2010 7:58 pm

As the title says I was busy... Last week the A15 in my ute started running hot and using a ton of water. I diagnosed a blown head gasket so lunchtime Saturday I pulled the head off to have a look. To my surprise and horror I found the gasket was sweet....the bore on number 3 cylinder had a 40 mm long split in it !!! In all my years playing with A series I have never seen one do it before and on a standard 76 mm bore too. So I had to drag out a stock bore A14 block I had saved and build a new motor using the guts of the A15. I worked until ten on Sat and got back into it Sun morning at 10 and it was running at 3 oclock...not bad on my own and for an old bugger !!! So now I can claim to be running a "stroker" A14....!!

After seeing you driving around all weekend in the ute Wayne, all going mint now? Think we all need another Wellington catch up at our new place since only a few have been here.

Yep it's running sweet. I dropped in a pair of lowered & shortened struts and stiffer springs yesterday and it has transformed the handling. I am driving the wheels off it... did you notice it's new rims I'll get a pic up soon. They were buckled and rooted so I got them for zilch and repaired them. I have already been chased down by people wanting to buy them !! We also spent some time yesterday on Hayd's Sunny fitting a new guard courtesy of Tim (tsillay) and fitting new tyres for his mags so it is good for a warrent and then we will have two Dattos back on the road...

A catch up would be good...I am a free man again after 13 years and can go out whenever I like...as long as the kids say it's ok

Hey Tony, we haven't seen you around for AGES mate! Have we even told you where we all are now??
We fitted all the manifolds and carbs back up to Georgie's Datto the other weekend too, so at least she's running again. Now just needs work in other areas too though before that's back on the road and legal. So might have to cruise in the Terrano!
