L20et on a L28 Block info needed

Postby newhybrid951 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:12 am

hey there fellow datsun owners
im helping my flatemate convert his 260c to Turbo!
using a L20et Head (found out today that it is a 05L) on a L28 Block
im just after a little info an help on the change over any information would be gladly taken in
currently we dont have any HP goals
im a little in the dark about what needs to be done to the block and head
we have been throwing around an idea about the LD28 crank an boring out the block..

but we are still a little unsure.... i understand we will need a mega squirt Ecu to replace the outdated L20et ecu Any help would be great or maybe somone that has allready done this could advise us on it

thanks

Hey, I did a bit of a writeup on here ages ago which may be of some use to you.

I probably wouldn't use the L20 head, they have smaller ports and valves and won't really do anything for you, you are better off sticking to the stock L28 head.

forget the L20et head !!! throw it away !!! .as djz has pointed out - tiny valves and ports ,and the small combustion chamber will raise the compression ratio on the larger L26/L28 block ,not what you need on a turbo setup .the stock L26/L28 comp ratio of 8.5 ;1 will be fine for turbo use .
at this point you need to decide how much power you want ,what intended use of car is , how much time and skills you have ,and most importantly how much money you have .
you will need an aftermarket computor ,megasquirt will do ok .
forget the LD28 crank idea ,it requires lots of machine work and balanceing which is expensive and because the stroke is so long it limits your max safe rpms .
my advice ? - run a stock L26/28 engine ,stronger valve springs ,mild cam ,L20et manifolds with porting on intake manifold ,370 - 440 cc injectors from sr20det (cheap) will have to make custom fuel rail ,t28 turbo from gtir or s15 or one of the smaller aftermarket types ,and a megasquirt or other aftermarket ecu .
on 10-12 lbs boost will make 300hp .
i run an L20 4cyl ,supercharged ,stge 2 cam ,carby fed ,15lbs ,no intercooler , makes 225hp at wheels.
